My Tegu eating its first fuzzy mouse! She/he was just purchased a few days ago, and has shown a low feeding response previously. So I've been offering live prey the past couple of days to gauge its feeding response. It wasn't as good when I fed a pinky a couple of days ago. I'll be using thawed mice, and feeding it in a separate enclosure once the tegu is used to its new home. It refuses to eat outside of it's enclosure currently.

I grabbed the camera as an afterthought, after the tegu (still no name yet) killed the mouse. So the chase wasn't recorded at all. I also apologize for my crappy filming. I'll get a better camera eventually.

  • aww hes soo cute how old is he?!

and its a boy, you can tell by the underside of their necks, boys have a puffier look and girls necks are slimmer (:

I'm actually unsure of his age. The buttons showing that he's a male actually just showed up today, go figure! He's a good boy though. Not as ravenous as I expected, but I figure he'll start eating more once his prolapse heals up (it's minor, and I finally got a medical cream for it, so it should be going soon. Especially since like three layers of shed are coming off :/ so apparently the husbandry where I got him, or where the pet shop got him, was questionable.

  • @Kebechet1587 He looks about 2-3 months old. Mine is 2 months old. Hes a sweetie. Hes not too ravenous either. He eats about 2 fuzzies a day or about 4 bites of ground turkey. Mines tail is nipped, the place where I got him didnt take good care of him either. My boy ate a rock a month ago and had surgery. His stitches are almost out so Im happy about that! I have a video of him eating if you wanna check it out. Tegus are the greatest.
