  • *u* beatiful

  • @maulee2008 Wiener Philarmoniker.

  • "Für mich wahr es beim ersten mahl, als ich es hörte, das erste mahl hörte, an vielen Stellen, oder manchen Stellen, zu diffus, ,..."

  • waves of time punctuated by music in harmony heralding imminent proximity of death. inescapable calm on collision course with peace. an exit riding on a tide. transcendent, earthly and full of hope and assurance

  • which orchestra is that?

  • Listening to this and looking at the painting "Isle of the dead" by Bocklin wich inspired Rachmaninov.. I'm getting a calm, cold, heavy and uneasy feeling. Like I want to go on that island and see with my own eyes the dark mistery it hides. Wonderful! Just amazing!

  • i'm gonna get some dissagreements, but i think this is one of Rakmoninov's most moving pieces. about six mins or so into it....man...powerful stuff. hard to keep the face dry...

  • incredible, thank you

  • Genial!!

  • In my humble opinion much too slow and languid. No forward momentum. One should be aware of powerful oar strokes right from the word go. The short elergiac passages are very pretty but the corpse's relentless progress to its barren island mausoleum is the main message in the sound picture Rachmaninov so brilliantly interpreted after seeing the original Bocklin painting. Well worth a trip to Leipzig to see it. By far the best of the four existing versions he made of the same subject..
