A holiday light show featuring moving lights and snow.
December 2008
Lighting Design and Programmer: Curtis Mueller
Location: San Diego, CA

Here it is...the show that almost never happened. The majority of the rig collapsed just days before the show due to stormy weather. I was determined to get it back up again as I had already created the soundtrack and spent so much time on other elements. I was left with just one night to program the remaining 90% of the show. Words cannot describe how cold is gets outside around 4am, but it was worth it. I apologize for any messy transitions and strange "what was I thinking?" moments. I was cueing the show to music just hours before people arrived, which was the first time I had seen the show in real time from start to finish.

Entitled From Stars To Midnight Blue, this years show is a bit different from the rest. This musical journey brings you up, around, and back again. A dream of mystery and fate is unraveled as the magic of angels sparkle across the sky. This dream of living through transition and change falls within a message between two people. So the title could be written as it is or...
From: Stars
To: Midnight Blue

The piano silhouette (@5min 55sec) was actually projected on the top portion of the tree, which is to the right of the house. However the projection wasnt bright enough to be effective, mainly due to having a throw distance of about 75 feet.

Be sure to check out the slides at the end of the video, which will help better explain the layout and ideas behind everything. I apologize for them passing by rather quickly (press pause). It was the only way to stay under the 10 minute youtube limit.

Enjoy and dont forget to click watch in high quality.

  • Are you doing one this year? btw, what foggers/hazers are you using? Sweet tree too!

  • Yes, I am doing one this year. I used a combination of Antari and LeMaitre foggers and hazers. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • how were you able to program this 4 am because wouldn't the light go in your neighbors windows

  • I'm at the top of a hill, so the lights go over everyone else...if the beam is even visible at such a distance.
