check the throttle they get caked up in gunk, and also the flyby wire VDO STEPPER MOTOR inside the black housing on the throttle, give all a good clean out with carb cleaner (throttle a PITA to remove) replace O ring to the top throttle air servo (they leak like hell). had trouble with my megane, no one could find the problem but i did water ingress into the stepper motor case, piched rubber seal so put a bead of silicone on after youve taken it appart.

Having the same problem

i have same problem, check timing gear

My dad had a similar problem with his 1999 Megane 1.4. It stalled when it was cold, but ran fine once it had warmed up. We never found out what the problem was though, because we sold it, the problem was intermittent too which didn't help.

its a easy problem

My 1.6 rt would stall from warm or cold if I didn't give it some gas and rev!

same to my coupe dynamique... Car works fine, but it couldn't be moved when it was minus 2C. Im about to go buy new air filter, clean Idle control valve and spray some carburetor cleaner in throttle body.. If i will have same problem again, i will disconnect MAF and see if it works...

72uoba finally did you fix this problem? if so, what was the problem? Thanks a lot.

the problem is from the Pinion Defazor, some were in the distribution, the cost is around 200 Euro

The video serves to illustrate the exact nature of the problem.

Well, I had the coolant temperature sensor replaced. All was good for a year. Same problem recurred; Renault could find no fault. Removed coolant sensor connector, found green corrosion; brushed, cleaned up and sprayed liberally with WD40 - no problems since.

If you have a faulty engine coolant temperature sensor, then the coolant temperature gauge shows false readings, i.e coolant temperature close to zero when the engine is warm. This can cause starting problems or hesitation upon acceleration because ECU gives richer air/fuel mix to an already warmed up engine.
If the coolant temperature gauge readings are ok and you still have starting problems when the engine is warm, then the TDC sensor has failed.
Hope it helps.

If you watch the video, you shall see that the engine is, indeed, warm. QED.

Whilst it does behave very similarly to a TDC failure, this problem was finally traced to a faulty coolant temperature guage which was informing the ECU that the coolant was at -20C.
