1986. Live jazz at Blackies Bar in West Maui (Part 1)
World famous Terry Gibbs playing vibraphone.
Blackie is the bar's owner and is the bald guy in the orange shirt.
He was quite a character.
He'd stand by the door to "screen" who could come in.
If he didn't approve of someone he'd suggest they might be happier going somewhere else instead.
Both Blackie and the bar are supposedly gone now, but if anyone knows for sure, please leave a comment.
My father and I took the video and it's not copyrighted.
Permission was provided to shoot video (which is obvious since Blackie often looks straight at the camera or gets out of the way. ;-)
@mauiblackie Wow!
Thank you for the comments. I'm honored. :)
The video above (one of several) was taken in 1986 while on vacation in Maui with my father. Blackie will remember him as Al Lightner, the jeweler.
He passed away a few years ago.
I'm his youngest son, Kevin.
Thanks for the great food and music.

From Maui Blackie Gadarian: Blackie's Bar closed in 1995, after 14 years as the longest running jazz club in the Pacific. We had many famous musicians appearing with our Maui jazz band. We sold the property to a gas station, but Blackie and Sara Gadarian are still in Lahaina running Blackie's Machine Shop.
Blackie is still wearing his trademark orange shirt and is a notorious Lahaina character.
