Slow tables isnt only slow cloth. The response of the cushion is mabe an even bigger factor.

I like the way Buddy strokes the ball. It seems like he got used to the slow table speed quickly. He also seems to be making more balls on the break at least up to this game. Great match.

wow, nice combo by earl, i saw him lining it up and i couldn't believe he was going to go for it...

@harrymodo2 statistically low percentage shot*

bla bla bla, so what? thats it, nothing more to say. a low percentage shot? sorry man, maybe for you. thats why you are an us open winner.
-
So he kicked and hit the right side, and yet 2 sentances later Buddy wanted to "make" the ball and thats it. You cannot even keep your own story straight on the matter.
As I said, things have changed. In pool these days most pros are kicking that ball 2 rails because it is the percentage play with higher chances of positive results. That was the entire point of the post, Buddy took on a shot that is a lower percentage play and it proves the point that kicking has evolved since this match.

sorry, but it wasn't kick and hit. he hit the ball at the right side. and again, they getting used to the fast cloth nowadays, kicking is so much easier. And your idea to hit it to rails is on and nothing special, but buddy wanted to make the ball and thats it. sorry man, but to play pool is another thing. A snooker player would hit the ball maybe 2-rails, but a good pool player can bank and very often make the ball.

The arrival of Efren Reyes to America raised the kicking aspect of the game from basic "kick to hit" mentality to a more focused kicking with purpose. He also lead a paradigm shift towards more rails when kicking.
Case in point the kick you picked would rarely be shot 1 rail today, instead played off the headrail and short on the long rail for a 2-rail hit with the chance of potting in the upper right pocket and also giving a chance of the cueball getting safe behind the 9, 5, and 6 ball.
-
that is not correct, in the older days they played slower cloth, were you have to hit the balls harder. it is much easier to kick on fast cloth. the kick at 5:35 was played very good! and buddy hall can kick you out of this world, man!

One thing this match shows is the HUGE improvement in kicking ability that has taken place from 1988 to today. The kicking style they are playing with in this match is horrible.
Awesome combo at 6:10
