This is the first flight since installing split flaps on my FMS Spitfire (1.4m). They work very well and make landings a lot less stressfull. This flight was carried out with almost perfect wind conditions (around 9kts) and amazing looking clouds.

The camera is a bit shaky at times, but the cameraman swears that there was an earthquake. I somehow doubt that. :)

  • Very nice work man, i wish my spit would come in like that. I installed flaps on my spit aswell but im not that happy with them (had 4 Testflights so far). The plane slows no really down, she just floats till she almost stalls. May i ask what kind of angle you use for your flaps during the final approach and what your flyingweight is, im at 2000g now, including the lipo (2800 in my case)?...anyway nice video man, not to mention nice landing :)

    I've set the flaps to approximately 45 deg angle to the wing when they are fully extended. That angle seems to be fine for me. My planes flying weight comes in at 1.9kg. I'm using a 4s 3000 battery plus 200g of dead weight in the nose to get the COG to about 85mm from the leading edge. I have found that they work best when there is a slight head wind. I've flown with them only once on a totally still day and they seemed ineffective then.

  • @SJohnM81 Thanks for all the infos, i also put some extra weight into my spit, CoG roughly at 87mm, but only fly with a 2800 lipopack. Im a bit surprised that you manage to keep yours under 2000g...anyway i will do my next tests with 45° degree angle...and see what happens, thanks again :)
