Attack on Grozny, Chechnya 1996 (English subtitles)

In March of 1996 multiple groups of Islamist Chechen and mercenary gunmen commenced their attack on Grozny. As a result of this attack, several units of Ministry of Interior troops (heavily armed police) were surrounded by overwhelming numbers of gunmen. In this video are recorded radio communications of these police units asking the Russian military to intervene and help with the wounded and killed.

i can't help but ask myself why are the battles russian wage so much more bloody than american ones? heres a example, grozny '96 lasted only 14 days and resulted in death of over 300 russians and 1500 terrorists. Fallujah '04 lasted 46 days (3 times longer) and resulted in death of 95 americans and around 1000 terrorists. Or first grozny battle, it lasted 1 day and resulted in death of 1000 terrorists and 500 russians. Why were russian wars always bloodier (eastern front ww2, ww1, chechnya...)?

@misteraxl1 Imagine that Texas secedes and that Washington sends US Army to deal with US Army trained troops stationed in Houston, who have all the equipment that US Army have, including anti-tank and anti-air guns. Plus, Turkey, Saudi Arabia is helping Texan troops. Imagine now that Texans are able to fall back to Mexico, which you can't attack. Now consider the US Army losses during such encounter in Houston.

Holy shit, this is more intense than any other combat video I have seen. Lots of intense and frantic fighting. The Russian Spetsnaz, ground troops, and MVD are badasses. Brave dudes right there.

The comander was so wrong,by telling them to go take the hostages under the dark.Anounse,that you took them etc.And what?He knew, that they were doomed. I will tell you, as the Russian soldier,who spent 2 years in Chechnya,that was simply wrong command,he gave to those soldiers.Those animals,dont give a fuck.about the hostages.They will kill their own people,just to kill 1 Russian soldier.When i was there in 1996,they were killing their own kids,women-just to kill 1 Russian soldier. @two0sixTay it was the 1st invasion and they lost becuase the russians moved there troops into the mountians and the chenchens moved around the russians back into the city.
