The indigenous Moken people -- or sea gypsies -- have always looked after mangroves on the Pra Thong island in southern Thailand. We find out how they are working to restore and protect the island's mangroves after the tsunami.

  • Thank you for showing the importance of saving mangroves. I loved your video.

  • Phuket is not a "mainland city", it's an island. During the Pleistocene epoch when the seas was 300 feet lower, Phuket was a peninsula. It's been an island for a long time though. :-)

The Moken are treated like animals by many Thais. They have a rough life both because they rely on the dwindling food that the sea provides and because the Thai government treats them so bad.

They shouldn't walk on the pneumatophore. That will kill the mangrove.

Good video... good luck with your work!

  • Keep up the good work!
