Why are so many people scared of clowns now-a-days? Trying to demystify coulrophobia. By the way, I love how clowns look, even considered being one.

  • Clowns are scary because unconsciously they represents the "lie". You are in front of a masked subject that is completely different from the real person under the camouflage. Even the bigger smile and eyes are symbols of the "untrue". His job is to appear always happy and smiling... Totally artificial, this is fuckin scary!! Fools are the opposite... The insanity has seen like the higher form of sincerity. In fact i like them and i hate clowns... And I'm not Coulrophobic!

  • Great analysis! But I still see jesters/ jugglers/ jokers/ clowns/ fools in somewhat the same category.

  • Clowns are easy to mistake as kiddy fiddlers. Thats;s reason enough not to like them

  • The reason people are afraid of clowns is because of some popular idea stemming from stupid American films in which the bad guy is always some asshole dressed up as a clown (Joker, IT, and many more.) They give people the impression that a clown's goofy entertainment is insanity, therefore potentially dangerous, and that their makeup is meant to mask 'evil.' If you go to other parts of the world where such films aren't big and tell them you fear clowns, they'll look at you like you're retarded.

  • @sharkl11 that's why people are scared of clown :O

  • i have coulrophobia there is only one clown i like and i always did

  • i love clowns

  • erm , then those diagnosed with coulrophobia cant go to macdonalds ?

  • I have very recently found were my phobia of clowns came from. I watched the Brave Little Toaster again and there was a scene that I had forgotten, and for good reason. There was a scary killer clown in one of the scenes. I guess my mind suppressed the memory because I was so scared, but left a lingering feeling of fear for clowns. I'm 19 and to this day clowns frighten me to no end.

  • it's the way they cover their true identity. they pretend to be happy and funny but they aren't. also i don't find them funny, slapstick comedy (falling down,...) isn't funny. i don't like mimes neither, because they don't speak and you have no idea who's behind the makeup.

  • people who are scared of clowns are weird
