kauai was filled with WONDERFUL people when we went. it was part of what made our experience there fabulous. i can't help but wonder what you did to piss them off...

Hawaii is a land of contrasts, absolutely stunning scenery, and some of the most unwelcoming, rude people you'll ever meet. My advice is go to Thailand! The beaches are better, and the locals are actually friendly to visitors.

I hiked the full trail on my 25th birthday in 1975 and stayed for 2 months. At that time there was a small cabin at about the halfway point that could be used for an overnight stay if you didn't want to make the whole hike in one day. I doubt it's still there now, but I kind of hope so.
