  • Canto de Iemanjá

    Saveiro savá melé melá

    Ilê olá

    A rainha mâe do mar

    Traz o seu amor

    Sua bênçao vem me dar

E eu dou uma flor sing of Iemanja

    Sailboat (need help here)

The queen of the sea brings [her] love, [her] blessing

    I give [her] a flower

  • Love this song, great tune, energy and vocal expressions... so what of a translation for those who are Portugese challenged? Ye Me Le ... go to be simple and beautiful, they are, the music is!!

  • Ye Me Le - it´s a only expression by african roots. The authors are Luiz Carlos

Vinhas and Chico Feitosa.. The "chant" chorus section of the lyric (Ye-Me-Le ia ia la) "means nothing," The verses speak of a fisherman and his sailing boat and reference the Ioruba deity Iemanja.

  • I first saw this group on Hulabaloo! They came out of the darkness in some smoke and dry ice and singing this song. The lead singers have always been sexy, sultry and just hot. Beautiful leads picked Sergio Mendes who could sing and made you stare. Lani Hall and Karen Phillip, thanks for the stuff of daydreams and cold showers.

  • beautiful song

  • @bardobulga Here is the full lyrics:

Yê-mele, ari, ará, yê-mele, ará Yê-mele, ari, ará, canto de Iemanjá Zauê, zauá, melê, melá, indê, olá, onda do mar A rainha, mãe do mar, faz o seu amor Sua benção vem me dar e eu dou uma flor E eu dou uma flor, e eu dou uma flor Algum dia vai chegar e eu vou ouvir Esse canto de Iemanjá, vai do mar sair Zauê... Yê-mele..

Also look up for the great Laurindo Almeida! You won't believe your EARS!

  • was the best time to live dont have the government up your arse things were better than people suck today its to TENSE

  • Samba Gringo....very nice!

  • @IamPaladin

This song,YE-ME-LE,has always been sexy, sultry and just hot / daydreams and cold showers.

  • I like to play play this song and other Brasil 66 on hot summer days and nights.

  • @cali4nia4me For me Brazil 66's cover of Fool on the Hill is an exception to the rule -The Beatles' own version ends up 2nd!

  • Lani Hall continued her career with A&M records & husband Herb Albpert as we know -- but I wonder what became of Karen Philips, anyone know? She was xlnt, too, though I would think, overshadowed by Lani Hall in lead vocals. Of the lead singers I heard prior to Lani & Karen, no one topped these two women. Recording covers of (then) chart-toppers was genius; still highly recognizable yet nothing like the originals (Scarborough Fair, Fool on the Hill, With a Little Help From My Friends etc)

  • @XTRABIG only the impression. The blonde was far from being the lead singer. Lani Hall, the brunette one, was always the lead singer since the group inception in 1966. The blonde, Karen Philipp, is just more extrovert and perhaps a sexier dancer.

  • @leahcimber

really?! from the video I got the impression that the blonde woman was lead. she seemed very much into the music.

  • trippy- nice music for June!
