This is the climactic sequence from Greg Stump's classic ski movie, "The Blizzard of Aaah's", featuring Scot Schmidt and Glen Plake. Be sure to check out Greg's new movie, "The Legend of Aaah's" (more info at legendofaahhhs.com)
when was this filmed? i loved the first years of extreme skiing..........I modeled my skiing style after Scot (tried to), and gave up racing downhill to jump cornices world-wide :-) Thanks for the inspiration, Scot........beauty.......
I decided when I turned 40 that I would give myself whatever I wanted for my birthday. I moved to the French Alps and rode the grand cols of Tour de France history. The day of my 40th birthday was special. I drove with some friends to Chamonix, and we had Pol Roger Grand Cru on top of the Aiguille du Midi. It was this video clip that put the idea in my head when I was 18. As the tram got close to the entry station, I was shouting in my head "That's it! Plake's couloir!"
I can not describe how much this film means to me, although it was 5 years old before I was even born (1993) its people like Schmidt and Plake that inspired me to push the boundaries of what I could ski, although this video taught me little technically, it showed me as a young kid how cool it can be to drop off rocks, ski untouched and dangerous areas, and the rush that can come from taking those risks. I love how they showed a lot of respect towards European ski areas like Chamonix as well.
This clip is so cool. When I was 15 and just getting really into skiing I watched this clip over and over and over and over...... on VHS, on my VCR. Me and my friends would watch the Blizzard 2,3, maybe 5 times a day. I have to say this Movie made me and all of my friends move to Lake Tahoe because Scott Schmidt and Glen Plake were from here (at the time) and it was the coolest place in the ski world (at the time.)
I am soo glad I found this ,I had this on video in the nineties.
Music,Filming and the whole nutty bunch of them...brilliant.
Still ski to Propaganda to this day...
