In his junior year, Jared founded and coordinated Students for a Sustainable Future. The group was involved in a number of issues, including global warming, composting, recycling, and industrial hemp. As a senior, he led the SSF in an effort to prevent a 56,000-square-foot supermarket and 302-space parking lot from being built on a wetland adjacent to his school. After a nine-month campaign that involved circulating a petition, recruiting volunteers, letter-writing, canvassing, and frequent attendance at local zoning board meetings, the city planning board narrowly voted to prevent the project. In 2005, Jared attended the U.N. Convention on Climate Change and also graduated from Wheaton College, MA, with a double degree in political science and economics.
