Quick audio sample of my Green Electric Amp clone. Schematic and layout transcribed as per gutshot photos from EA's website, with a few deviations due to the fact I used a NOS Matamp Roadster faceplate, and had to use the existing holes. Recorded with a cheap Sony Cybershot camera. Going to try and post some decent clips soon. Next time I'll shut off the snare springs in the background, and tune up first, too. lol

Master volume about noon, loud as I could get it before the mic on the camera really started distorting.

Fuzz knob dimed, Depth knob set at bassiest setting, Bass at noon Treble at 3 oclock, Presence at noon, Boost dimed, Master Volume at noon.
Running thru two 16 ohm Orange cabs, top one with Vintage 30's, bottom one with G12T-75 speakers.
Tubes are (3) JJ 12AX7's, (4) Valve Art EL34's biased fairly cold at 30mA @ 475 VDC on the plates.

All hardwired Point-to-Point turret construction on turret strips. Welded 14G aluminum chassis. I built the head cab myself as well.

Direct in with a stock 2001 Les Paul Standard, E flat standard tuning with dropped C# on the low string.

Just to put any misconceptions to rest, there are a few similarities circuit-wise to vintage Orange and Matamps, but overall, its a different circuit, and it should be obvious just hearing it.

See my other videos, running through just the G12T-75 cab, and a 2x6L6 50 watt version, as well as a Orange Overdrive clone with 2xKT88/6550, an Orange Overdrive clone tube rectified with cathode bias and 2xEL84, and a couple Trainwreck Express-style clones.

Currently working on a Laney Klipp clone, and a hardwired Orange Dark Terror clone Stay tuned.

  • @DrOnymous Wow. A Mutiplicity and Hulk reference in the same breath. I'm so happy I could punch myself in the face!

  • CLONE ? Clones are identical to the original. Good Luck !

  • @ElectricAmpUSA Semantics... should I say "circuit clone"? "Partial clone"? "Somewhat similar in appearance"? It's not like I'm building these for anyone else, that would be disrespectful to you. It's all for my own amusement. But ya gotta give me credit for drafting a schematic off a tiny photo off your website. lol

  • @ElectricAmpUSA Of course, if it makes you feel better, I can have a faceplate engraved with a lightning bolt on the front, and the controls in the proper order... Just Kidding. :D

  • haha i figured it out, you're "nutjob" on the music electronics forum! i knew there couldn't possibly be more than one person who has cloned a green amp. hopefully i'll be #2, i'm gonna try to begin a clone of one of these pretty soon. incredible work, keep postin vids man!

  • @squirrelhome Yep, that's me. Thanks for the encouragement, and good luck on your build!

Next vid coming up soon is a total desecration of a Trainwreck Express. I built another similar to the Laney rebuild in my other vid, but this time I went over the top with more gain and more low end, and I built a TW-style head cab that is another desecration unto itself!

  • If I cloned myself, I bet that clone would be practically identical. Genetically identical, unless the clone were hit by enough gamma radiation to turn into the Hulk. Either way, I'm sure the clone would clone himself too. What a mess I would have to hide from Andi MacDowell

  • I'll pay you to build me one of those!

    Seriously, man.

  • Still have a layout for this? I'd totally love to build one of these!

  • yeah saw the schematic, unfortunately i'm a mechanical engineering student and I'm having a hard time reading it, but i would definitely want to make one.
