@klaassart I think french colonized thailand.. when I went to bangkok there were lots of french style buildings this means there are still french influence in thailand up to now.. and also Japan captured thailand remember? so Thailand is not a land of free anymore.

Thailand had never been colonized by foreign countries--Anglophone or Francophone or otherwise--this makes us unique from other countries in SEA in particular and Asia in general in this regard. We've always maintained the monolingual society, so when we speak English we do it with a proud Thai accent so that the whole world should be aware of where our root is! Take it or leave it! Simple as that!
