Hopefully this will help everyone understand scales and modes a little better. It is helping me, but I sitll have a long way to go. As a side note, this works for every guitar style except Allan Holdsworth's who invented his own scale system. :p

Notice the color associated with modes to attempt to correspond with the moods the modes represent. *rolleyes* :p

As an example of how it can be used, try Super Locrian or a Half Diminished over a 7#9 chord and notice it makes sense to have a minor and major 3rd in the scale.

Anyhow, I did not search the net to see if anyone else had come up with this concept in terms of presenting the scales and modes in a simplified way so it is kind of exciting. Just making three of these scale and mode finders has helped me understand the fretboard a little better. Hopefully someone out there can make it into an iPhone App. It is a pretty simply layering of data. What you might notice is that all the books and videos on scales and modes are kind of redundent. The fact is there is only 1 scale pattern on the 12 frets of a guitar or bass for Major scales. That pattern shifts based on the key or the mode selected by the musician.

The 3 scale finders I made include the Major scale and its 7 modes, the Melodic Minor scale (just Major with a b3) and its 7 modes and the Symmetric scale which is Whole Diminished and its 8th mode, the Half Diminished.

The song is actually another demo featuring the Effectrode Tube Vibe and Tube Drive. The delay is the Empress Vintage Modified Superdelay using reverse sub mode c for the first, clean 12 bars for that synth reverb effect and the auto set sub mode b for the second, 12 bars. The chain is G&L S-500 with Seymour Duncan Jazz and TB-5 into Tube Vibe into Tube Drive into Empress Superdelay into Genz Benz Black Pearl 30.

I will try another vid with the scale finder to clarify and give more examples. The Super Locrian and Half Diminished would be examples of scales and modes to play over a 7#9 chord.
