@raysalsa1 They wear the lead vest so it takes longer to reach terminal velocity. They could easily point down to go faster. I don't need to be an experienced jumper to understand basic physics I learned in grade 9.

@raysalsa1 You got it wrong. Any object in free fall no matter the weight will be pulled down by gravity at the same speed of 9.8m/s. Surface area and body shape will effect the rate of decent. Weight will effect terminal velocity though. Higher weight means you will reach terminal velocity later as the wind resistance takes longer to match your weight and equalize the force of gravity.

@b4igetu If you take 2 objects with exact same surface area the one with more mass will fall faster. i knew many light jumpers who would wear a lead vest under jumpsuit to essentially go faster relative to say some1 like me. the lead vest didn't change their surface area yet yhey were able to fall faster. are you a skydiver with relativbe work experience?

@raysalsa1 The weight difference has nothing to do with it. Weight does not effect fall speed or acceleration in free fall, it is basic physics. However surface area does effect speed.

The student didnt do bad. He did the best thing he could. He stayed calm and rode the ride out until the instructors were able to get to him. Some people would of got hit by sudden shock and just decide to deploy the parachute in nerve.
