  • I remember being at the farmers market when I was about 10 years old. At that time a full bushel basket of Tomatoes cost $4.00. My have times changed.

  • @lovedbyanimals I can still get deals like that sometimes. I got a huge flat or tomatoes for $4 at the farmers market one day. They weren't organic, but for like 10 lbs or beautiful, ripe tomatoes, I wasn't picky. I dried them and still have some in a jar in my fridge. The co-op was amazing. I no longer live there but it is now run by a great team of organizers and volunteers and has over 1000 members. Maybe you can start one in your city. Thanks for watching.

  • Alexis I am lucky in that I don't need to start a co-op here. To the east of me there are two Farm produce stores that pick the produce that morning and sell it during the day. The one Farm is right next to the highway and you can see the crops growing as you drive past. Even though it is not organic you can't get produce much fresher. Past that are fruit orchards and farms where you can get mega deals when the produce is starting to get a bit ripe.

  • @lovedbyanimals That's wonderful! I have been pretty lucky here too. Although there does exist an organic co-op catering to raw vegans (Rawfully Organic in Houston), I stopped participating and have been relying mostly on little veggie stands and the big farmer's market, which have been more affordable (although mostly not organic). It's not an ideal situation, but we do the best we can. I'm so glad you are able to obtain good, affordable produce as well.

  • @thrivesurvive if you've ever seen the dark rich soil in upper Michigan where they grow lettuce you would swear the vegetables they grow up there is even better than the organic vegetables you buy in stores.

  • @lovedbyanimals I'm sure it's awesome, provided they aren't using pesticides to kill the micro-bacteria

  • You can also use Splitstuff (dot) com to organize a virtual, micro-coop. Invite friends and neighbors to band together to buy goods in bulk to get them at wholesale prices directly from the supplier and split the cost among the group!

  • Awesome! Come check us out! we have a photo album on the web site with pictures of our weekly produce to give you an idea of how it varies and what you can expect. Now that' it's warming up, it will only get better.

  • Wow!!! You are in Redlands! I just came across your video. I live less than a half hour away. I am inspired to be a part of this!

  • thank you :)
