As you probably know, a few years ago I was working on a hack of Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis, codenamed "soniNeko". I uploaded several videos of my hack here on my Youtube channel. However, that hack has been canceled a long time ago, and I haven't been working on it anymore.
What you probably don't know is that I was planning to have a few more levels in my hack before I decided to cancel it. With this video I finally take the chance to show you some of the stuff that I wanted to include but that ultimately didn't make it through.
- Sunset Park 3 from Sonic Triple Trouble was supposed to be a mini-stage between Star Light Zone 3 and Scrap Brain Zone 1. In my plans it was meant to be an intermission showing Sonic going to Robotnik's headquarters for the final showdown, I even planned to have a small Robotnik animation flying to the right in the background at the end of the stage, à la Angel Island Zone 2. This zone was being programmed by Hayate, but I scrapped it before the final release because it was never completed. As you can see in the video, collision with objects don't work. However, the train cars are generated randomly, which is neat. This level had the chance to have a lot of potential. It wasn't supposed to have a boss.
- Sky High Zone from the 8-bit version of Sonic 2 was supposed to be a generic 1-act level between two main Zones, but I didn't work on it very much, I only had some level tiles ready when I decided to cancel my hack, so I never finished it. The level layout isn't complete by any means, the badniks are wrong, and I didn't even give it a proper title card. This level had the chance to be fun to play, and it incorporated some features from Green Hills Zone (still from the 8-bit version of Sonic 2) as well. It wasn't supposed to have a boss.
- In addition to those two levels, which existed at least to some extent, I planned to include also Bridge Zone from the 8-bit version of Sonic 1, as another generic 1-act level, probably between Spring Yard Zone 3 and Labyrinth Zone 1. It was supposed to have a boss, I already had art ready for it, a remake of Bridge Zone's peculiar boss, drawn in 16-bit style. However, aside of that, there was nothing else ready (no level tiles, no level layout) when I canceled my hack, so there's nothing I can show in this video.
Well, I hope you can enjoy these. They were meant to be a surprise, but since I canceled my hack there is no need to keep these secret anymore.
Since it was requested: mp3 version of Sunset Park 3: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17315175/SunsetPark3.mp3

Sky High music sounds like the exact music instruments for Green Hill Zone

@BatmanFanLego Indeed! Not all of them, but I deliberately took a lot of inspiration from the original GHZ, since the theme of these zones is quite similar, so I went for a similar approach. Nice listening skills, by the way. You're the first one to notice that.

@nineko There's another problem in Sunset Park Zone:
The rings are uncollectable!

@BatmanFanLego Collision with ALL objects doesn't work, including both badniks and rings. You can die by falling in the space between the cars, though.
