Rodrigo Esponda is the US Midwest Director of Mexico Tourism. He gives specific information about where the current violence is concentrated in Mexico and how far away it is from some of the major vacation destinations.

Mr. Esponda made some very good points in this video. He really could have even been more aggressive by saying how many U.S. Cities like Detroit and St. Louis have MORE deaths per year than major cities like Acapulco.
Not to mention, crime in the U.S. is MUCH more sporadic with random acts against the common public. At least in Mexico, violence is targeted and direct for those "involved" in crime. This weekend in Chicago, there were 14-gang related deaths- why isn't CNN blowing that up!?

The negative image that the US news media has been portraying for so long now about Mexico is terrible and incorrect. CNN, Fox news and the rest want ratings, and the only way to get them is to have a headline. Stating that Mexico is one of the most peaceful and safe countries in the world to visit is not an attention grabbing headline, but it is. Millions of tourists visit Mexico every year and have a safe and great time, and I am one of them. Don't believe all the nonsense you see on the TV.

2009 Motor Vehicle Fatality statistics have not yet been compiled and released. In 2008, there were 40174 fatalities in accidents. Worry more about driving in your own car in the United States. Therefore, kiss your kids goodbye before you leave the house or before they leave the house.

32% of all non-natural deaths of U.S. citizens outside this country happen in Mexico. This is a desperate attempt by the Mexico Tourism Board.. To read tragic Mexico vacation death stories google "Nolan Webster".

This guy is incorrect or crazy. I have been to Mexico several times, and every time was filled with Danger. My family loves the missions work in Mexico, but to say it is perfectly safe is a flat out lie.

As Mr. Esponda pointed out with a map of Mexico as a visual aid, the border areas south of the US contain most of the violence. He also noted that the distance from these "danger spots" to some of the major tourist destinations are very great; many 1000 miles or more. As an example, you would probably still feel safe to travel to Dallas even though there has been drug violence and killings in some areas of Chicago; a distance of 1000 miles between the two cities.

Tragic as Nolan Webster's death was in Mexico in 2007, from what I have read, it had nothing to do with the drug violence which Mr. Esponda is specifically addressing in this video.
