Short audio clip of Jimmy Reid's appearance on the MIchael Parkinson show in March 1973, where he took on the right wing Carry On star Kenneth Williams.
We get the usual cliche's from the total spectrum of politics here. Yes, Jimmy was a Stalinist by being a member of the Communist party but I doubt his involvement in trying to save thousands of jobs allowed him much time for a dialectic debate with others on the left wing - like myself - who despised Stalinism! He was too busy trying to protect his people, from dickheads like the Nationalists here.
@AggiedeLampedusa Are you really saying that people are as simple as box A and box B? Im a nationalist therefore I must be a nazi... try to put a bit of thought in your comments instead of just whatever bile you happen to have been browsing on the internet that week or your opinions on things you hardly even understand
@madcapoperator If you think Reid was a boor you know nothing about the man. He was a true intellectual with a deep and wide knowledge of philosophy, politics, economics and literature (indeed he had a documentary series about Scottish literature, "Reid about Scotland" in the 90s/ 2000s).
Jimmy Reid puts his case very well. It has to be said he was doing something practical in 1971, namely saving the livelihoods of shipyard workers while in 1971, Kenneth Williams was making the latest piece of Carry On drivel.

Jimmy Reid was a Stalinist. As a Stalinist he sold out the working class.
