Sea Nation St. Lucia

On our second day on St. Lucia, we were met by Ken and Yannick, two musicians with a story to tell. They are young and alive and want to change the world. They invited us to their house to hear them play. It was, as they say down here, righteous. They reminded me of teenagers I met in Beirut who love to rap. They look like typical hip-hop youths, but when you grow up during a war and in a political hot zone, your awareness is different. They were rapping about bombs and politics and coming together no matter their faith...tolerance, acceptance....peace. I will never forget them.

Ken and Yannick are part of an ensemble that includes violin, guitar, drums and original music. You know when you can feel musicians' connection? When what they are playing starts in their souls? It was like that. Their awareness was so much greater than what pop culture provides and their music (my favorite song was called "Song", I'm waiting to buy the CD) spoke volumes. They are smart and aware...far beyond my own growth at that age, maybe even now. But, in one of their songs they say "I am me, you are you. " It's as simple as that. Don't judge. Just be.

I'm really curious about SeaNation tv show. This video is a good example one of my favorite moments of Megan McCormick episodes, when she meets the locals. We hear stories so interesting with so many different point of views on life. I'm waiting to buy the CD too.
