I've made a short slide show of my first attempt to make a guitar speaker cabinet.
Materials and parts used :
18mm baltic birch plywood,
PVA wood glue,
white tolex,
natural linen (for the baffle),
original marshall corners,
2X metal handles,
2X Eminence Legend GB128 guitar speakers
4X door stoppers (used as rubber feet because they are much cheaper),
black acrylic paint
high quality speaker wire and a jack socket.

Tools :
Electric screwdriver,
Belt sander,
Drill,
Jig Saw,
Stapler,
Brushes (for glue and paint)

I know white tolex is not very practical but it looks really nice :)

  • 1:26 guitar players tend to prioritize their money differently than most people lol

  • @secretagentYTer

Yup. Cause for most people the first thing you do when you have cash - invest into a good quality router! :)

  • @karciune, This connection looks like it's in parallel, 8 with 8 equals 4 Ohms ..... What is the Power amp you're using ??

  • @Balayzeh No, it is wired in series and clearly visible in the video. The total impediance is 16 Ohms. The amp head I use is Blackstar HT 100

  • Interestingly, if you use a closed back cab, you can leave out one of the speakers and still get the same sound pressure level with half the power (and much less weight). This is known as a "detuned" cabinet and of course will save the cost of one speaker as well. Works the same using 2 speakers with 4x12 cab and two empty holes. Why everybody doesn't build their cabs this way is beyond me. The sound I am told is better as well. Look into it, people.

cool, did not know that before. I will try. But something inside me says that there will be too much space for the cab and the bass will be too loose. I will still try for the experiment lol :)

  • what about the input jack? how does that work into all of this?

  • So you just used glue and the bracings to hold it together? nails or screws ? (except for the bracings)?

  • Where did you get of find the "corners?"

  • Wow great job it looks great I bet it sounds great, what made you decide on The Eminence Legend?

  • @karciune okay maybe not haha

  • Great job, it looks amazing. How does it sound?

  • I wanna get a 2 12 speakers, but cant afford to get 1. I have a marshall 1960a 4 12, but just hate the fact i need to lug around a 4 12 to gigs, which cause will cause me alot of inconvenience. U rekon i should chop my Marshall up into 2 2by12?

    Cheers

    Darren

  • very cool. Do you think I can put a 15 inch and a 12 inch speaker to work together in one cab? I have those two speakers, would it require much knowledge in electronics?
