Awesome! :) I feel the same way, Elizabeth. My baby's almost 9 months, and I was shooting for that 1-year-mark as well. But now I'm like...weeeeell...maybe we'll go to 2 years! We'll just see. :) My mother breastfed us, and her mother breastfed all 4 of her children, too.

I never understood why anybody wouldn't want to breastfeed. It has so many benefits to both the mother and child. I suppose some people might find it "embarrassing" to do in public, but there are ways to do it discreetly. And if the mother cannot be around the child for a few hours, why not pump your breast milk into a bottle? It may not have the same bonding effect, but it's better than that man mad formula crap. If I ever have kids, there is no doubt that I'm breastfeeding. =)

God intentions.
Thank you Carol and Elizabeth for sharing your experience. I breastfed both my sons, Cameron now 29 back in 1980 for 1 year and Tyler, 20, in 1989 for 17 months and I remember it as a really special time for me and my children. I am a New Yorker living in Florida since 1994 and Carol I remember you well. And yes Elizabeth you do have something to be proud of. I am now a Doula and I will definitely be an advocate for breastfeeding especially in the African American Community.

What really enlightened me was how much they advocate breastfeeding when I went in for WIC. They really made me feel much better about my decision to breast feed and I felt they offered me a lot of support and help if I have any questions that arise. There are so many benefits to breastfeeding I don't see why any woman would give up the chance to bond with their baby that way.
