This is really amazing, i've been looking for a video like this. Its amazing to see someone throwing with this much clay. I've been attempting about a bag and a half with almost no success and was hoping you could give me some advice. How do you recommend building up to 2 bags? Incrementally? Advice? How did you learn? Thank you.
@dotinop Its all about figuring out how to move material . Bigger pots mean slower speed most offten . The old potters all said "Let the wheel do the work ." The tourque of the wheel is the work horse here. Can you wedge 50 pounds of clay? Learning to move a larger lump of clay takes the same kind of skill as throwing it . Do less slowly with more . I really learned my bigware throwing first from Frank Parsley at Branhams and George Currtis at Littlethorpe both traditional potters in the UK .
Guy, Awesome first!! and i tend to have a problem while pulling up the wall that I lose a lot of clay rather than pulling up the ring-shape clay up to the top. What should I do to avoid this problem? Thanks.
@yongrai83 The presure of the inside hand pushing out and that of the outside hand are "cutting "instead of "compressing" .TAken to its exsteme the second level student will cut the pot in half while pulling up the wall in the transition half way up ... Good luck finding your way .
