If you look at the rankings they are extremely flawed overall (for example Denmark being 10th, Sweden being 14th despite the fact that they were in one of the easiest groups in EC qualification) So in conclusion, the FIFA rankings mean nothing.

The competition in Europe is a thousand times more fierce and even countries like France and Portugal struggle to make it to the European Championships (which is a higher level than World Cup because European teams are superior to all others).
