Hammond Organ Medley

Playing this on the grandparents Hammond organ. I'm not nearly as good with the organ as I am with the piano (although that isn't saying so much) - but I have fun with it.

It looks weird the way I always draw the foot I'm not using way back under the bench, but that's a matter of habit - I have big feet, and I tend to hit the wrong pedals by accident if I don't get my feet well back from them when I'm not using them. Looks weird, helps me play, cool.

A few verses each of some of my favorite hymns... The Old Rugged Cross, Alas and Did My Savior Bleed, Amazing Grace, and When We All Get To Heaven.

In case it helps place those hymns, I work out of the Methodist hymnal for the most part.

To Lori; Well gee, since I learned "the old rugged cross" at the age of four, "amazing grace" at the age of five , Guess you have some things to teach me! You know... I've got two replies to this, and I don't really care if they impress anybody or not. First of all, I did this two years ago (as you see from the upload date) and the piano is more "My" instrument than the organ. My more recent uploads are more representative of my skill or lack thereof.

Secondly... I played it the way we sing it in church. I've got no quarrel with "blues" or "fancy" organ playing or anything else -- but I played here the way it sounds in our sanctuary on Sunday.

@rebelmunro Just because it's a Hammond does not mean that everone who plays it has to be a Jimmy Smith wanna-be. If that's the kind of music YOU like, then fine. But there are still many people who like to be able to recognize the song that's being played, and endless runs, riffs, and pedal stomping makes one song sound pretty much like another. THIS is more in line with what the creator of Hammonds envisioned from the outset. If anyone sucks, its you and your attitude.

I agree with you, i play the hammond organ for church, and i don't use any of the features on it, i just play the keys for the man above us :-)

Young Man, God has blessed you with a gift and regardless of whether or not you play to satisfy "Mans" likes or dislikes, God is pleased by those who use the Gifts that He gives to glorify Him.
