I totally agree with you.I HATE how poorly they seemed to have researched the ftm community.I am afraid that people will take that image of a transguy and assume that we are all like that.Upsetting, thus my strong dislike for the show.

They almost portrayed max as if he was a lesbian who just decided one day to become a man on a whim. The L word really seemed to suggest that lesbians are less supportive of people different from themselves than most people, with all their bitchiness towards heterosexuals, bisexuals and transgenders. The writing on that show was truly awful.

yo. i only recently caught Max's storyline on the L Word & was totally pissed about it. The pregnancy didn't bug me as much as I have some transmale friends who've been pregnant. but what pissed me off was the straight-up ignorance, lack of support & respect from people who were supposed to have been his friends INCLUDING his partner! That birthing class scene was f*cking appalling. There was a real opportunity to model how to educate and deal with community ignorance & they missed the boat.

Yeah , i love the show but 1 thing about the show i hate is how they did Max , I'm a transLesbian , i feel that make all us transpeople (f2m, m2f &......)look bad.

Max was attracted to same sex relationships and thats what i think people need to understand more than just being a trans.

I found the whole show ridiculouse and stereotypical and am not against one changeing gender I got no problem but if you r a woman becomeing a man you should be like a man .The Max character should have become full male.Seeing a pregnant male to me is going to far for my taste!!!!!!

Yeah it's frigging stupid.
AND OMG the chest surgery part! I've been trying to explain why that scene was stupid to my girlfriend.
AND the pregnant part... ugh, just ugh!

Theres a transgender character on Degrassi too. :) I was going to watch the L word just for Max but I can't be bothered now.

okay...this may be stupid, but what exactly is "queer" ...like what does it mean in the lgbtq community??

I would say queer is someone who doesnt identify as straight or gay or trans or bi but is open to those possibilities or doesnt want one of the aforementioned labels...but thats just my take...

and if people are going to watch the L word and expect that ONE transman to be a representation of ALL transmen then they're just ignorant. I'm sure they probably don't relate too well to a lot of the lesbian characters, so I hate to hear when people see Max and are completely convinced that ALL transmen are like him.

what you say is true but again i will point out this is at least the only FtM character i've ever seen on a mainstream-ish tv show... and i just wish it wasnt a ball of idiotic stereotypes because it makes what we face that much harder--undoing their damage...im not influenced but ppl that arent exposed to trans ppl in REAL life do accept this image/role as realistic and its not and that what im upset about the ignorance
