In developing countries, diarrhea is the cause of an estimated 2 million deaths a year. It is the leading cause of death in children under the age of five and in Sub-Saharan Africa alone, it is estimated that 800,000 children die from diarrhea and consequent dehydration annually. The most common causes of diarrhea include the following: bacterial infections, viral infections, food intolerances, and parasites, etc. We can prevent diarrhea with better hygiene, improved sanitation, accessibility to clean water, and a supply of zinc supplement.
