Come for a trip north, up the M5 - from Michael Wood services and turning off at junction 11a towards Gloucester. The sign says 'Keep apart 2 chevrons'. The chevrons start about 3 minutes in. If you're not familiar with UK motorways, note the helpful 'three-two-one hundred yard marker boards as we approach the turn off. Weather conditions were bright, with a light drizzle. (Typical!) The speed limit on motorways is 70mph and most cars were doing less than 80mph. Most lorries keep to 56mph.

  • What's the maximum speed limit on UK highways?

  • @LondonUnderground186

    The speed limits on British Motorways (and dual carriageways with central reservations) are:

    70mph for cars, buses, small goods vehicles and motorbikes;

    60mph for cars towing anything and for goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes.

    In some conditions, such as poor visibility, overhead gantries will indicate a general, slower limit.

    Thanks for watching!

  • Can i ask, What car do you drive?

  • @schnitzer12 It's a Honda Accord. Thanks for watching!

  • @motorwaydrifter 56MPH is just the usual speed that speed limiters are set to. Speed limits in the UK can only be in 10 MPH increments anyway.

  • @davidreynolds87 Do you really not know the legal speed limit for goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes is 56 mph? Also why do you keep to the middle lane ? The running lane is the inside lane . The other two lanes are for overtaking. There is no " Fast lane ".

  • @davidreynolds87 That's interesting to hear. In Canada we have a general speed limit posted at 110 kmh (70 mph) on 4-lane highways and 100 (65) on rural highways. In Eastern Canada it's 10 kmh or 5 mph less than Western Canada. It's the same speed whether you drive a car, a truck, a road train or a RV, winter or summer.

    Some US States has their own rules and speeds which are different from a State to another

  • It's funny to realize that the far right lane is the passing lane. Some people will find my comment stupid but I always grew up and traveled in countries where the drive is on the right side of the roads. As for the chevrons, they should have them on the North American highway network. People follow too close at times and beside being annoying, it's dangerous

  • @scottieboy102 Middle Lane Man?

  • Mind you I don't blame you for being in the middle lane on that stretch, the ruts left by the lorries are terrible. Especially after J12.
