Social networks like Facebook and Linkedin are going to be more and more important for contractors finding work in the future.

That's the message from the Association of Recruitment Consultancies conference. Organisations as diverse as Intel, Royal Bank of Scotland, Microsoft and the British Army all outlined how social media are affecting their hiring strategies to delegates this week.

They painted a picture where big employers, independent contractors and recruitment companies would more and more be liaising through social media and the online personalities of specialist staff than through conventional recruitment methods.

ARC chairman Adrian Marlowe however sounded a cautious note.

He warned that the downsides of instant communication and other aspects of social media have yet to really emerge, and it would be unwise to rely too heavily on it in favour of time-tested conventional recruitment and placement methods.

Of course, umbrella companies like Excellium Umbrella also have a key role to play in helping fulfil the needs of contractors and recruitment companies give the team at Excellium Umbrella a call and well show you how.
