I have been doing anumal portraits since the early 1970's and I appreciate the exactness and detail used here. Most of my early portraits were done with sticks not pencils.
I now use a lot of color pencil, pastel, and water color in a mixed media concept together. It gives me more depth of color and detail.

Hay. I'm going to feel a bit silly for asking this but why do you do it in layers and why do u use white before the main colour. Thanks. Love the picture as well

@Piano0397 There are two reasons for the use of a light colour to be used before darker colours are applied. Firstly that I like to use a sand coloured pastel paper therefore the need to lighten the paper. Secondly I use the light colour as a base to stop the stronger colours appearing too harsh. I have oversimplified this but you would understand better if you view more of the clips. Best regards Colin.
