This video shows you how to use the CheapStat, a potentiostat that can be built with about $80 of parts. It can do square wave, alternating current, linear sweep and stripping voltammetry. Chemistry teachers can use it to demonstrate classic electrochemistry experiments, like cyclic votammetry in orange juice. Researchers have used it to acquire data from several different electrochemical DNA biosensors.
It was developed by students in the UCSB departments of Chemistry and Electrical Engineering.
