  • Nice to see a clip of Uncle Oscar at the height of his music career Miss you . He had a pretty fabulous Jazz Funeral himself. Makes me proud to be part of the Rouzan family

  • The tune is 'JUST A CLOSER WALK WITH THEE' (NOT 'SING ON'). Additional trumpets are Jack Willis and, (I think) 'Kid' Thomas Valentine. Trombones include Wendell Eugene, Clem Tervalon, Paul Crawford and (possibly) Worthia 'Showboy'

Thomas. Images are too dark at times to identify some of the musicians positively! A gem of a clip, and very moving. Mikum

  • is there a part when they do "didn't he ramble?"....and swing it???

  • don't forget to mention parade marchal Fats Houston.

I had the privilege to see a funeral parade in april 1976 with the Olympia Brass Band. Fats Houston couldn't walk anymore.

He was sitting on the motorcap of a car.... still doing his thing

  • on clarinet is Pete Fountain.

  • My gosh I didn't recognize Frank he looks a mere lad. Wendell Eugene I recognized as he is a friend.

Well if that is not.Frog , hmm I know that face from somewhere. I know it aint Clem Tervalon or Homer Eugene. Too old for Eddie King, Hmmm Cant dredge it up from my list of trombone players of the era.

  • I don't know who the trombone player is but it is not Frog. The white trombone player is Frank Demond. That's Albert "Papa" French in the background (against the window) at 3:41 and Wendell Eugene on trombone at 3:56.

  • You are absolutely right Louis - plus it makes more sense that Louis would have been sitting with the family since Paul was his brother.

    Thanks for the additional IDs,

  • Thanks trump - I think the first trombonist shown at 3:54 is Waldron "Frog" Joseph perhaps? Not sure who the white fellow is.
