My favorite Blue Shadows video. It shows the spirit and the energy surrounding these four men.

At the time of the shooting, The Blue Shadows had been on a difficult touring schedule. They had not cracked the "big time" and consequently Billy and the boys found themselves driving from city to city in an old van, pulling up beside large tour buses to haul their own equipment in for an opening spot in some prairie backwater.

They shared rooms, ate in truckstops and racked up thousands of miles on treacherous northern highways. Despite their inherent toughness, the road wore them down. Billys health deteriorated and the writing was on the wall.

From the second Blue Shadows album Lucky to Me.

Masterfully Shot and Directed by Marcus Rogers (see Cinestir Productions).

Important note: I understand that the copyright of this material belongs to Bumstead Records and the authors of the song; it is my intention to inform viewers of the fine work this band produced not to infringe on anyone's rights.

The Blue Shadows record "Lucky to Me" is OOP (out of production)

  • i love the blue shadows, can anyone tell me the name of all their albums Im trying to collect all of their songs .

  • They recorded 2 albums for Sony/Columbia in the early 90's. "On the Floor of Heaven" and "Lucky to Me". Out of Print for many years.

There are a few rare demo tracks/live tracks kicking around (a live album was planned before their breakup).

Probably the rarest recording is a promotional single pressed on 78 rpm disc. It had the Cowsill/Hatcher cut "Coming On Strong" b/w "Hell Stays Open", a cover of the George Jones classic. I think there were only 50 pressed; they sound amazing!

  • 'not meanin' to drop names, but I actually worked with Billy.

Dispite what many people told me about him (uh, he does drugs, uh, he drinks too much, uh, he's an angry human being) ..I found him to be a wonderfull and insightful human being. I thank G-d for the priviledge of having met him.

    just sayin'.

  • absolutely.

a heart of gold in a damaged package.

    we loved him too.

Well written. A heart of gold in a damaged package.

  • The Blue Shadwos were definitely a amazing band people didn't seem to realize. They certainly got turned down by the Music establishment that their style is two tetro for their audience at that time. I been fortunate to see them play live and they delivered a good show each and everytime they played. Their stuff is back in print again and very much looking forward to purchase a disc of them.

  • Thanks for putting so much of their stuff up!

  • NPR's Fresh Air program did a segment about The Blue Shadows today.

  • Franklab09: They just reissued the first album in Canada on KillBeat Music, available via iTunes. Comes with a DOZEN extra songs all for $9.99.
