Daniel was asking for it. His craptastic science made my soul hurt...and I'm glad his mom shot him. (I just wish it had been in the face, so we wouldn't have had to suffer through his whiny last words.)

this episode is absolutely tragic...Eloise pushed Daniel away from his passion his entire life and into physics knowing it would lead him to the island, where he would die at her hands!

I think Eloise has to be the saddest character... knowing you're going to kill your son. Knowing exactly when and how he's going to die and by your hand. In her scenes you can see how pained she is maintaining this destiny for him. Hence why she wanted the bomb to go off, she wants the timeline where she doesn't kill her son, where she can nurture his love of music.

OHHHH! So now we know that Dan got shot because "Jacob's touch" was stopping anything from killing Richard, like with Jack and Richard with the dynamite on the Black Rock.
