This film is a cartoonishly satirical clay-mation of the last part of Richard Wright's african-american classic Native Son. The film was done for an English project, but the work that went into it was that of an artist's initiative, not someone grubbing for an A. John Winter co-wrote and co-directed with myself, Spencer Morin.

  • i love this book, and i love this interpretation of it. i am confused, however, about why Bigger is a Gorilla and his mother is Aunt Jemima... are you commenting on how they are depicted in the book, how readers perceive them, the role the characters play in American literature, or on black people in general, etc.?

  • @nanditeplus Glad you dig the interpretation!

Going into it, my friends and I were doing this for our English class in high school and we

thought that the novel was a bit like a Spike Lee joint before its time.

Bigger as a Gorilla is a cartoonish depiction of "the native son" or a "primal creature" if you will, and

is based off of old racist caricatures of African-Americans. We needed a simple model for Aunt Jemima and

thought it conventional to have her come in as a typical mold.

  • @bumrucker311 Ultimately what the whole thing came down to was creating a caricature of racist satire. We had no racist intentions. The idea was to be so racist it was anti-racist. Best way I can put it.

    Thanks for watching! :)

  • Ive sadly watched many native son projects and I would have to say this one is the best yet! Insane in the membrain! Haha you guys did a great job. How long did it take you guys to do this?

  • @Connorcoughlin HEY THANKS! I really appreciate that.

This was about three days in my room with a bunch of clay, a lot of energy drinks, and some greyboard for the backgrounds.... oh yeah, and jenga bricks for the tank's entrance.

membrain= memBRANE btw! just a little help from your friendly youtube neighbor!

    Cheers!
