This is my second controller review in a hopefully long running series of controller reviews. This one is over the Nintendo 64, a truly revolutionary controller that many has many people divided on what they think about it.
I for one love this thing.

  • the joystick on my controller is stiff and it dosnt feel smooth when i move it around its kind of annoying. does any one else have this problem? not that it really matters i mean... its still responsive... but is it supposed to be stiff?

  • @CODvideoPRODUCTIONS Well, I'd certainly say the main problem with N64 controllers is that over time their joysticks become annoyingly loose, so I guess with that in mind a stiff joystick should be a great thing for a good while. However, you make it seem like it's more stiff than it should be, I haven't really encountered that, does sound a little strange.

  • Damn memory pak had barely enough space for a single game. Also, transfer pak with pokemon red inside >> rumble pak.

  • @cutepinkbandanaman Most of them weren't too bad, unless you played racing games or the various sports games, they'd take up like 122 of 123 blocks, how convenient...

And yeah, the transfer pak was pretty cool, although I've always had a Super Gameboy so playing just the handful of Pokemon games on the N64 was a bit of a step back from the Super Gameboy goodness.

  • it would have been nice if they added a feature on the rumble back for you to add your memory card

  • @mymothersmeatloaf I agree, although that would have made a pretty large monstrosity on the back of the controller, you're right.

They of course did give you the option to change them out at the appropriate times, which I always thought was fun, I always felt like switching memory cards or rumble packs felt like loading a gun, lol, but some games had issues recognizing stuff after it had been plugged in, and so on. There were some 3rd party combo ones, but I've never trusted them myself.

  • my n64 controllers(both) have analog sticks that are so loose, its annoying

  • @Indead well i opened it up and what i found was a bunch of dust and trash and crap. so i blew it out, put it back together, and now its a little smoother. but is there a way to fix the joystick on a n64 controller for when mine gets loose over time?

  • @Indead Then again they could have really reduced the size of the rumble back, later down the road releasing a much more smaller package...or perhaps even controllers that had the feature in them, to me personally it would have been really nice, kinda like how the PSone's lcd screen had still ports on the back for you to plug in av cables and shit.

  • @mljhnr1 Thanks man, sorry it took me 11 minutes =P
