I lived in Salem 1975-1985- it was a great place. It was a safe place at that time, and had a great state job, but doctor said I had health problems due to the moist climate so I moved to Sacramento, also got a great state job until I retired 5 years ago. At that time in Salem Lancaster mall was the place while downtown was being rebuilt. I haven't been to Salem since 1990, my wife said we should visit the place as we knew a lot of people. I don't know how Salem is today.
