This is my single conversion FM Receiver driving a MC1310 Stereo Decoder IC coupled to my single ended EL84 Valve Amplifier. The begining of this video starts with a stereo test record of David Bowie's Hit single, Space Oddity to demonstrate the stereo seperation in both channels using my MP3 player coupled to a low power FM stereo transmitter. As you may notice the audio quality sounds slightly dull because I am using a cheap video recorder but it should still give you all a good idea of how the stereo version of this receiver performs regarding the supurb stereo seperation. My webpage on how to construct this receiver can be found at http://philsvalveradiosite/philsvalveradiosite/singleconversion10.7mhzpulseco...

  • The purpose of this 470N capacitor is for correct operation of the VCO voltage controlled oscillator frequency in the decoder circuit that generates the 19KHZ pilot tone and 38KHZ sub carriar and this value is very critical. It would be better to have this size smaller but out of all the electronic component retailers I have dealt with, this was the nearest size I could find at the time of building this project.

  • Nice receiver but what's the purpose of the huge 470nF capacitor?
