You are quantifying your examples so they fit. One could do that with anything till it makes sense. But sure whatever, agree to disagree. But I would watch her act in her winning role before you claim she did not deserve it and someone else did.

No one said that seniority dominates newcomer all the time. If this was the case we wouldn't have child nominees and winners. Riva being in an Oscar-winning film doesn't mean that it catapulted her onto the Oscars' radar. Perhaps they thought being nominated was honor enough regardless of performance which is the joke. They have their gems; Riva's not one. No arguments were changed; the way I stated them was, to help you understand what I'm saying. But yes it's subjective, just agree to disagree.

C'mon, Riva is NOT a newcomer in anybodies eyes. The Academy knows her. She was in an Academy Award winning film in the late 50s. You keep changing your argument so it breaks down to the specific situation you want. My Riva/Lawrence point still holds. Fact is Mara was really good, maybe great, but it was not one of the greatest performances ever. It was not some transcendent acting job. But this is all subjective at a point. I'm sure it was a hard choice, but Streep deserved it too.

You're right, haven't seen Streep's film, but I've seen enough to know her style and what I'll get in watching her movies. Mara IS new and presented a great performance I've never seen before, one that no one was expecting from her. And I JUST said it was the only film of Mara's I've seen. So no, I'm NOT a fan. And by seniority I don't mean age, I mean belovedness in the industry and contribution to American film. Riva is a newcomer to the Oscar's eyes, whereas Jennifer is a Hollywood "it" girl.

"Snubbing" could refer to both of our definitions. You're biased because you never seen the film Streep won for. You have no idea if her performance was deserving or not, But you're obviously a fan of Mara's. This year, 22 year old Jennifer Lawrence was over Emmanuelle Riva who is 86. Your "newcomer" argument is baseless and flat out not true.

"snubbing" is referred to as not nominating someone that should have been nominated, the most common Oscar offense. Streep won for her seniority. All we ever see is Meryl, Meryl, Meryl, but when a newcomer comes in and presents a performance, transformation, and dedication that is pretty spectacular, something that Meryl could never have pulled of, she loses. It's the only film of Mara's I've seen and I've never read the books. SO I wouldn't say I'm bias. I'm a fan of the PERFORMANCE.

Personal bias. Sounds like you didint even see the movie Streep won for.

Btw it is not "snubbing" if you can make a case for a person who won. Everyone in the category could be deserving, does not make the person who won un-deserving.

I completely disagree. The Oscars are the most prestigious award show but they're also the most full of BS and everyone knows it. They snub hugely deserving composers, films, actors ect. from nomination and when they are nominated they always give the award to someone less deserving, opposed to someone critics and audiences that was a shoo in for winning. One example of this is when Meryl Streep won for some movie I don't even remember when Rooney Mara deserved to win for TGWTDT.
