I had the random urge one night to record the orchestra of a southern summer evening. All I did was set my webcam mic on my window ledge and hit record - my house is literally 6 ft away from the thick forest that produces these noises every night.
You will hear katydids, crickets, frogs, and all other kinds of anonymous nocturnal creatures, their voices mashed into one single sound. To me, this noise is deafening, enveloping, and strangely relaxing...since it is so powerful, I advise you turn the volume down or use your computers speakers (I find this sounds better and more calming when slightly muffled). This makes for great background noise, or something to relax to.
Whatever you use this video for, I hope you enjoy. :)

(The knocking noise you hear at the beginning I did not hear when I was recording, so I can only guess that it was bugs hitting the screen next to my recorder. )

  • am i the only one who likes the noise of cars driving outside their window? and then crickets and such. i love hearing cars and semi trucks outside my window. as long as it isnt super close. but i love that distant fwwwoooossshhh. cant seem to find anything like it though.

  • @PaulinaH727 Haha, I know what you mean. Sadly I live out in the sticks, away from any busy roads. Maybe if I move house I could record some suburban sounds. :)

  • What part of the country is this?:)

  • @xXPurpleLoliTranceXx The mid-South. ;)

  • My God how do u sleep???A big pair of earplugs needed..lol!!

  • @sineadlouisa Closing the window usually does the trick. Going outside and trying to have a conversation at night is near impossible. lol

  • Ahh, so relaxing. :) I'm a person who grew up in a modern sized city, but nothing puts my mind to ease faster than the sound of nature at dusk/night. :) Thank you for this.
