in the automotive dept of your local store you can get high temp silicone (used for exhaust manifolds). would really be useful in holding everything tight. i think you inspired me to build my own - ohms
...cont - stick a fan in your kitchen window. Do this at night, or your neighbors will call the fire dept. Let cool in the oven and repeat - the more times, the better. On fresh iron, I shoot for five times. The result should be black as night, smooth dry, hard and non-stick. Do the pieces upside down with foil on the shelf underneath to catch any drips.
OK, time out. You're hurting my feelings with that beautiful piece of cast iron. No need to paint it - properly seasoned it will be jet black. Take it down to bare metal (the hard part) then grease it up (I use lard because my grandma used lard) and fire it in an oven at 500f for an hour. Alton brown says 350f - but he's wrong. Lodge says 350f - but they don't want phone calls about all the smoke. (unofficially, at least one lodge rep says 500f is better)... cont.

I admire the fact that you're doing this with a sling on!

Dude, how long have you had that sling on?
Isn't it about time to take it off?
