TweekinOut, the problem with putting chains up front only is that if you are going downhill and your front wheels have more traction than the back wheels, the back of the car can slide while the front grips, possibly causing a spinout.

,i had an 95 a4 audi, 1.8 t quattro,he had 40 % - 60 % traction split.

If u have a quattro, why did u only put chains on the front wheels ?

maybe they grip better because the engine is right on top of them. more weight = more traction.
just a thought.
