.hack//Liminality - Grandpa's Violin (Third Recording)

A *third* recording of this piece, hehe. Thanks to duVillage for making this one possible! He sent me a recording of him playing the piano part for Grandpa's Violin. I was so excited, I had to grab my violin and record this again!

Grandpa's Violin is a piece by by Yuki Kajiura, from the .hack//Liminality OST. I think it's one of the most beautiful melodies in any anime soundtrack.

Although it is on the .hack//Liminality OST, this song actually appears in .hack//SIGN too, in episode 26 ("Return"), towards the end.

i downloaded the sheets for this piece , but it was the kind that didn't come with the slurs / bowings :( how do you know when or which notes to shift ?

You start out a bit insecure, but pick it up nicely after 20 seconds or so. Nicely done! I definitely see more collaborations in the future.

thanks! i will have to do some research to figure out how to adjust my pickup to get a darker tone... this one really sounds subdued compared to what i can hear when i'm playing. maybe i should build a transducer pickup? well, at least i didn't have to do much cleanup after recording like i did with my other two versions!

Very nice, but you should try to use your full bow!  Using the entire bow can really open up your sound.

The piece sounds like you placed a metal mute on it. Could be your mic though. I know some cameras (which most contain video) can record a better sound than this so perhaps you might like to try using your digital camera.

@wilabaning It's called shifting. We don't have frets on the violin :). Shifting is done after you're comfortable enough in the beginner's position, also known as the first position. This piece only requires shifting between the 1st and 3rd positions, which is the first position taught in shifting. Look at shifting to get more info. :) It comes with practice.

I don't know a single about violons ^^; so this is an amateur's opinion: your violon doesn't sound exactly like song in Liminality but you had the melody right so nothing to complain about!
