On the 21st February 2009 a gospel concert was held at St Mary's Catholic Church South Brisbane to celebrate the community. The date was significant because the Archbishop of Brisbane, John Bathersby, had earlier sacked Father Peter Kennedy as the administrator of St Mary's and the 21st was to be his last day. Father Kennedy refused to leave and thousands of St Mary's congregation turned out to support him.

In the concert Father Kennedy, who had been learning to sing for a year, sang a An Eriskay Love Lilt and dedicated it to the community.

  • peter kennedy is an exceptional human being; One, i've not seen for more than 15yrs, and yet time spent with him has shaped who I am today.

  • I admire Peter Kennedy and what he has done. St Mary's is a rare place in today's world. A place where all are welcome. Long live St Mary's

  • The man has a big heart , you can hear it.

  • This man is a truly loving person and it's because of his love for humanity, that the Catholic hierarchy are getting rid of him.

The Catholic Church; has a long history of foolish decisions and getting rid of Farther Peter Kennedy is just another on its list.
