@pepethekingprawn Simple, if (and he most likely is given his "death" in DWD) Jon Snow is Azor Ahai reborn, he would have to fulfill the prophesy "Born again amidst smoke and salt" his wounds were smoking, and the only way salt ties in is if he has a heritage stemming from near or of the ocean (the fisherman's daughter).

@igerree It's outright said his mother was a few people though. Why believe that and not that it's Ashara Dayne or Wylla?
For me the Rhaegar theory just makes sense: Ned was a man of unfailing honour and it was completely out of character for him to cheat on Catelyn. We also know that he insisted on raising Jon, despite Catelyn's hatred of him, that he made a promise to Lyanna on her death bed and that he even kept the identity of Jon's Mother secret from Robert, his closest friend.
