More than half of all youths will suffer injuries to their musculoskeletal system. For kids as young as 12, this means that joint ligament tears, concussions, and multiple surgeries can be the norm. This injury epidemic will worsen unless we make immediate changes.
The good news is research at the University of Michigan reveals basic performance enhancement and prevention programs can drastically reduce youth injuries proving that an ounce of prevention goes a long way.
The University of Michigan Bone & Joint Injury Prevention & Rehabilitation Center was recently established to reduce musculoskeletal injuries and conduct focused research to understand the mechanisms of injury.
The U-M Center has internationally recognized researchers and clinician-scientists working to solve the musculoskeletal injury epidemic. Collectively, our vision is to create lifelong musculoskeletal health for people all of all ages and all activity levels.
