I remember seing a video once of an ice fisherman who couldn't figure out why his bait would keep disappearing. He would put the bait on the end of a fish hook, attach it to a 4 foot cord, and then lower it into the water. Turns out that as soon as he left, a crow would fly down and pull on the cord, step on it so it wouldn't fall back in, pull again---and bit by bit until it had the hook out of the water to get the bait.
